President's Message

Hello everyone,

Thank you for supporting the San Diego Fine Woodworkers Association throughout 2009. Your continued membership and support during 2010 will allow the Association to offer a host of benefits to our dedicated members.

Renew your membership quickly

If you haven't renewed yet, now is the time to do it. If you enjoy receiving discounts from our sponsors, you had better get moving. Our sponsors will be asking for your new card on January 1st, but may allow you to take advantage of discounts until January 31st. You can get the application from our website or at any of our sponsors. You can also Renew your membership here and pay online.

I would like to welcome Dick Ugoretz to his new position as the SDFWA Secretary. Jim Strawn is heading up the Resources and Raffle spot, Terry Stolzoff filled a vacancy in the Toy Program and Tom Franks joined as the Publicity Chairman.

We have created a new position called Getting Connected. Joni Palashewski (AKA Joni P) will fill a much needed void in our group. Joni's attention will be focused on getting new members "connected" with other, more seasoned, woodworkers to help them achieve their goals. Whether they're looking for basic woodworking skills, help with a particular project or just have general questions, Joni will help them Get Connected. Joni will work closely with Ed Gladney to see that our new members don't get lost in the crowd. This position does not take the place of our Mentor Program, but rather enhances it by getting our new members more acquainted with the rest of the gang.

Speaking of the Mentor Program, one the goals of the Association this year are to increase the number of Mentor Classes. Ed Gladney already has a good head start with two Mentor Programs set up. If you have ideas for future Mentor Classes or would like to host or lead a class, please contact Ed. Make sure you read his article in this newsletter.

The Design in Wood Show planning is off to a great start. Our first meeting was held January 9th at Chuck Anderson's house. The meetings are held the first Saturday of the month (Jan - May) at 9:30am. This year's theme is Taste the Fun. If you are interested in becoming a part of one of the biggest juried woodworking shows in the country, please see Bob Stevenson's write up for more information.

I hope everyone had a great holiday season and has a prosperous New Year.

I look forward to seeing everyone at our first meeting January 27th at 7pm.
